J.J. Abrams is a writer, producer and director who founded Bad Robot Productions in 2001. His work includes TV series such as Lost, Alias, Fringe, Person of Interest and Felicity, and feature films including Star Trek, Super 8, Cloverfield, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and most recently 10 Cloverfield Lane. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Katie McGrath, and their three children.

The 2016 TV show seems to have been Abrams' idea, he "pitched" it to Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.

when J. J. Abrams first presented Nolan with the tantalizing train set of “Westworld,” a few years ago, Nolan wasn’t interested.

It was Joy, who first became excited by Abrams' ideas.
